Finding Inspiration Everywhere

Picking up from my last post on themes, I found myself yet again doing up three illustrations but this time it wasn't so much a particular shape that drew them together but a fantastical world. I love to read, as well as game, and when I find myself wrapped up in both with the same kind of fantasy worlds, I'm always pleasantly surprised where my imagination will be inspired by the words and visuals of others. For the current illustrations I've done, it seems I'm drawn to the magical and mythological.

Creatures and places spun into existence in worlds that parallel ours but with heros and heroines in battle regalia or the lone wolves sent to find the hordes of evil on their own with only their magical abilities and their skill of the blade. It's a place where Conan the Barbarian and Red Sonja cross paths, or where wizards and hobbits walk on towards Mordor. A land full of magical creatures like Imps and Giants, Wicked Witches, Knights and Pirates. It's the culmination of centuries of speculations on the unknown and the unseen. It's where I love to let my imagination run free the most.
In this instance, a theme isn't so much a subject or color palette, but a never ending run of possibilities in a world where anything is possible with a little bit of magic.

Short Story S:4 P 6 - "A Warm Welcome"

*****Here's another short story I wrote that, as far as I know (no response back), never got published*** She drew in a sharp breath, body tensing as her eyes flew open. I’m about to be abducted. The thought pierced through her skull. Hazel eyes flickering wildly to the single window in the darkened bedroom, peering intently, she waited in bated breath for something...but seconds ticked by and only blue moonlight greeted her. “For Pete’s sakes,” she muttered, muscles relaxing and eyes closing briefly in relief. Shaking her head at the absurd thought that had literally jolted her awake, Katherine stretched out her sleepy limbs, straining the light sheet covering her in this summer heat. Sitting up, she curiously glanced around her room, and out the bedroom window, one more time before getting up to use the bathroom. Where the hell had that thought come from, she wondered as she sat in the muted shadows of her tiny bathroom. She wasn’t one to be afraid of the dark, sh...

When A Character Fails, It's in the Writing

It's been awhile since I've posted my thoughts.      But what I'm seeing as of late on--and hearing outside of--social media, is the downfall of tv shows due to a character/actor/storyline departure.      Which confuses me.      Not because it happens.      It has always happened.      Some of our most beloved characters and shows have had unexpected absences for decades. What confuses me, is why it is such a hot topic.      I suppose then, an examination of the times is in order.      Looking back at some of my beloved shows as a teen (20yrs ago) where a character, or a continuing story line had finally come to an end, I realize the difference is the approach. Whether there was discord on set or not, a family or financial issue--whatever the cause--we were never made privy to the reason something/someone we had enjoyed for so long was now gone.   ...

Short Story S:2 P: 15 - "Between Shore and Sea"

The storm raged on around them, encouraging rolling waves to thrash about as if they were dancing to the torrent of emotions spilling across the distance Between Shore and Sea . Words whipped and echoed like arrows across the tides, inflaming sun tanned cheeks and pale skin with blood red passion.      It was to have been a simple affair--no heart and all body.      But as the being had come ashore in the dead of night what felt like a lifetime ago--and settled its charcoal eyes on a beauty carved from mortal flesh and bone watching the stars in wonder--it had felt a daunting pull that spoke of white hot heat and doom.      From that moment forward they had spun a web of Emerald Longing and Golden Wonder around themselves as their bodies twined again and again. By dawn on that very first morning they were unable to draw themselves apart, so they had stayed cocooned, nestled in a world of damp wood, soft sheets and the...
